What is the Honda Maintenance Minder System?

The Maintenance Minder System uses the on-board computer to monitor engine operating conditions like speed, engine and ambient temperature, time, and vehicle use to determine when you need an oil change or regular maintenance. Your Honda vehicle will let you know when your next service is due by issuing a visual warning light. It will also indicate what type of service is needed through a series of codes that include A, B, and 1 - 7. Each of these codes stands for a specific need, which we will detail down below.

How to Read Maintenance Minder Codes

There are two parts to every Maintenance Minder Code. There is always the main code, with occasional sub-codes that need to be addressed, which we will provide here at Concord Honda. The main codes are as follows:

  • A - Change Engine Oil and Oil Filter, Check and Set Tire Pressure, Check Condition of Fluids, Check Wipers, Complete Multi-Point Inspection Sheet, and Car Wash
  • B - Everything Included in Minder Code A, Inspect Front and Rear Brake Linings, Lube Locks, Hinges, Latches, and Hood Cable, Check Parking Brake Adjustment, Inspect Tie Rod Ends, Steering Gearbox, and Boots, Inspect Brake Hoses and Lines (including ABS/VSA), Check Exhaust System, Fuel Lines, and All Connections, and Perform ED-18 Honda Battery Test

A sub-code might pop up, and can follow as such:

  • 1 - Rotate Tires, Check Tire Pressure and Condition
  • 2 - Replace Engine Air Filter, Cabin Dust, and Pollen Filter and Inspect Drive Belt
  • 3 - Replace Transmission Fluid and Replace Transfer Case Oil (if equipped)
  • 4 - Replace Spark Plugs and Timing Belt and Inspect Water Pump and Adjust Valve Clearance
  • 5 - Change Antifreeze
  • 6 - Replace Rear/VTM-4 Differential Fluid
  • 7 - Brake Fluid Flush
