We all know that put-put sound that a muffler makes when it needs to be replaced. Exhaust systems that are going bad are loud, but the noise isn't the only reason that you need to keep your exhaust system working well. The exhaust system in vehicles is also responsible for filtering the fumes that leave your vehicle.

The exhaust system is more complicated than just your muffler. First of all, gases pass through a manifold. They are also analyzed by the O2 sensors, and refined by the catalytic converter. The muffler is the final piece of the exhaust system. If any of these components isn't working properly, you could notice it in the way that your vehicle functions.

When your exhaust system is working well, not only is it quieter, but the air that you breathe is cleaner and your gas mileage will be better. And, of course, you'll be able to pass the fuel emissions test when you have an exhaust system that's in top shape.
