Safety features are always changing and improving, and our favorite Japanese automaker is working to make some truly advanced features. Honda has filed patents for two new safety technologies that would make use of augmented reality heads-up displays, also known as HUDs. Their aim is to make us, and those around us, safer than ever.

The first patent is for pedestrian safety. With the HUD, you'd be able to see pedestrians around you as well as those in your blind spots; this would prepare you for any possible situation so you could apply the brakes before you vehicle would need to intervene. The second patent is for vehicle-to-vehicle communication. This would allow you to see ahead of the car in front of you using a HUD, so you could monitor the vehicle's speed and be prepared for a sudden brake.

Of course, this technology is still in the patent stages so it will be some time before they're used in new Honda models. In the meantime, stay tuned to the blog and we'll give you more details when they come.
