The 2016 New York International Auto Show is now underway at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, where Honda is showcasing a U.S. spec version of its next-generation Clarity Fuel Cell sedan. The ground-breaking vehicle features several enhancements over the FCX Clarity it is replacing.
The first thing that is immediately noticeable about the new addition is its sporty and refined aesthetic, evidenced by its aggressive front end, low stance, wide and aerodynamic body, and sleek character lines. The Clarity Fuel Cell's lounge inspired interior offers further evidence of Honda's position as a leader in providing the latest in connected car technology. A floating 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen offers advanced in-cabin connectivity with support for both major platforms. The system delivers seamless integration of a number of smartphone features such as navigation, streaming audio, and voice-controlled search.
An important technological upgrade is the fuel cell stack that is 33 percent more compact than the outgoing FCX. The smaller stack allows for a more spacious five-passenger cabin, while still maintaining a U.S. EPA driving range in excess of 300 miles. The Clarity Fuel Cell also includes Honda's Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver assistance features, including Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with emergency braking, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS).
"We're pleased to be able to offer this first look at the U.S. version of the Clarity Fuel Cell sedan in advance of its market arrival later this year," said John Mendel, executive vice president, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The Clarity Fuel Cell is the first in an expanding portfolio of advanced electrified vehicles from Honda that will create a new pillar in our product lineup."
The Clarity Fuel Cell Sedan is expected to be available in select markets before the end of 2016.
