Honda Sees Four Models Earn Spots on Prestigious American-Made Auto Index

Last month, Cars.com announced that four Honda models deserved spots on their top-ten 2019 American-Made Index list. This result, coming in ahead of the company's 40th anniversary of making products in American, is an affirmation that Honda has the right approach to developing and building the cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs that the American consumer wants.

The four Honda models to place in the top ten were the Honda Odyssey minivan, Honda Ridgeline pickup truck, all-new Honda Passport SUV, and Honda Pilot SUV. In addition, the Honda Accord ranked 14th on the list, making it one of only three passenger cars to place in the top 15.

Cars.com considers several factors when devising the American-Made index, including assembly location, U.S. factory employment adjusted by sales, engine and transmission origin, domestic parts content. If there's a tie, heavier curb weight is taken into consideration.

Each of the Honda models included in the 2019 American-Made Index Top 10 was designed and developed by Honda R&D Americas, Inc. based in Ohio and California, with the vehicles produced by Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in Lincoln, AL. Overall, Honda produced more than 1.2 million automobiles in the United States during 2018.

Cumulatively, Honda -- which operates 12 major manufacturing facilities in the country -- has invested over $20 billion in its U.S. operations, with more than $5.9 billion of that investment occurring over the past five years.

In a Honda press release, Rick Schostek, executive vice president of Honda North America, Inc., was quoted as remarking, "Honda is committed to building products close to our customers and this recognition really puts the spotlight on the more than 31,000 associates and over 600 suppliers in America who make that happen every day."
